The transaction concerns the acquisition of a leading Polish renewable energy trading and supply company.

Eneco, one of the largest energy companies in the Netherlands and a leading player in the energy transition in Western Europe, has acquired a majority stake in Hekla Energy, one of Poland’s leading independent renewable energy suppliers.

The transaction marks Eneco’s strategic entry into the Polish energy market and provides the group with a platform for further expansion in renewable energy offtake, energy supply, wholesale trading and services supporting the flexibility and balancing of the energy system.

Combining Hekla Energy’s strong position and local market expertise with Eneco’s international capabilities in energy trading, risk management and portfolio optimisation will support the further development of both companies’ activities in Poland.

Hekla Energy specialises in purchasing renewable electricity and supplying green energy to business and institutional customers.

The firm’s advice covered legal due diligence, transaction structuring, the preparation and negotiation of the transaction documentation, obtaining merger clearance from the President of the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, and support during closing.
