22.09.2014

On 11 September the company PGE EJ 1 sp. z o.o., set up to build the first Polish nuclear power plant, signed a contract with a technical adviser – contract engineer, the British firm AMEC Nuclear UK Limited. The contract engineer's task is to support the investor in preparing and carrying out the project to build the nuclear power plant and to provide support in an integrated procedure in which a strategic partner is to be selected for Polish project participants PGE, Tauron, ENEA and KGHM capital groups) and also a technology supplier and investment contractor.

AMEC Nuclear UK Limited is a global leader in project management services for clients in the energy and fuel sectors. The company was chosen to be contract engineer in the Polish nuclear project in a public procurement negotiated procedure that lasted over 3 years. The total net value of the contract concluded was more than PLN 1.3 billion.

The law firm Domański Zakrzewski Palinka rendered full-range legal advice in the selection of the contract engineer for the Polish nuclear project. DZP provided PGE EJ 1 with the support required in negotiating with bidders during the public procurement procedure and drew up the contract. The advisory on the project was provided by Paweł Grzejszczak (Partner) and Wojciech Hartung (Counsel) from DZP's Infrastructure and Energy Practice.

This was the second contract related to the Polish nuclear project that was concluded with DZP's participation. In February 2013, lawyers in our Infrastructure and Energy Practice gave PGE EJ 1 the required legal support in selecting the entity that is currently carrying out environment and location tests for the purpose of choosing a location for the future nuclear power plant. The contract was concluded with the WorleyParsons consortium.
